A Delight of France Bakery, Escondido
05/15/07We have been going to "the French Bakery" for years for Sunday morning breakfast. The only complaint we ever had was the slow service - slow even for a French establishment. That has changed with the new owners, but little else has changed. The French Scramble should not be confused with your everyday scrambled eggs, the omelets are wonderful and the croissants are just as good as they alway have been.
The new owners have started doing dinners. We have been there once for dinner and were very happy with what we got. They were out of lamb shank the night we were there, but the waiter suggested the rack instead. The rack was very filling and very tasty. We do plan to go for dinner again.
I do not have any connections with this business. I've been here more than ten times.

Cenote Grill, Escondido
05/15/07This is not your mamacita's Mexican restaurant. There are many familiar items on the menu, but they happily will not be familiar to you unless you go to Cenote often.
There are burritos, tacos and other familiar favorite item names, but, again, with a special twist. My favorite is probably the tostada, but don't expect a hard-shell tortilla with some beans and other stuff on it. This is more like a taco salad without the shell than anything else. I prefer it with carnitas, but you can get beef or chicken. My wife loves the "spring rolls," but these have never been close to China Town, let alone China. As with most items, you get a choice of what to include in them. She prefers "one of each, crispy."
The chef has a preference for poblano peppers and that strikes a special note with me. There is just no comparison between poblanos and Anaheims or jalapeños. There is even cream of poblano soup. Yumm.
If you are into deserts, try the "sopapillas." I put sopapillas in quotes because they are nothing like the pastry balloons you will get in New Mexico, but you will not be disappointed. You do get the honey anyway. Order them when you order your entree to be sure you get them when you finish your entree.
Try Cenote Grill. You may be surprised, but you won't be disappointed.
I do not have any connections with this business. I've been here dozens of times.
